Model Number?
#1

I am working on a Philco radio for a friend. He said that it was a Philco 40-190, however the tube complement does not correlate.

It has the following tubes, 84, 41, 41, 7C6, 7A6, 7B7, 6J8, AND 1232.

The Philco 40-190 has a 7J7 in place of the 6J8.

Does anyone know the model of this Philco radio?

Thank you.

Hi Oscar

Probably 40-190. Icon_confused Allow me to explain.

Some 1940 Philco models started out using 7J7 mixer-oscillator tubes. Then Philco switched to 6J8G. THEN they switched BACK to 7J7.

Confusing, yes?

I do not know why they did this. I suspect they got a good deal on 6J8G tubes and used them up, then went back to 7J7.
