All, I have a question about some capacitors in this thing Its a Pyramid 4 UF 600 VDC Oil filled capacitor Question What type of oil is in this thing? The SG was mafe in the 50's I think..
I want to open up and re stuff them.. But with oil in them how do I proceed. Hope its not PCB oil??? Any help Skip

Quote:But with oil in them how do I proceed. Hope its not PCB oil???Yes, I can say with almost 100% certainty. If the cap was date coded after 1976 it would not have PCB, but a type of mineral oil. Pull it out, dispose properly and replace with a mylar type(ish) and a tie strip. GL Chas Pliny the younger “nihil novum nihil varium nihil quod non semel spectasse sufficiat”

I'm seeing your response late here for some reason. Didn't get a notification of it. I remember how carefully we were required to dispose of the light ballasts at work, ( and of how disregarding my supervisor was about the whole mess.) Bad news.
