So, what model is it?

Ok, time to ask for some help here. I
may have an oportunity to do some restoration work on this Zenith console.
If that day comes I'd like to have an idea what model I'm dealing with and if there are any "sticky" spots to watch for with a novice restorer.

John, The pictures you provided look like a 1942 model 10S669. The original finish had a fake burlwood on the front and I had to remove it.If this is the same model your burl wood finish is already gone. I had the cabinet refinished after removing the burwoodl and while not original it looks very good. The biggest problem was replacing rotten wiring. This was very prevelent in the many swithes for the station and tone selectors. Just go slow and replace one wire at a time if yours are shedding the insulation.I also had to replace the tunning drive belt. Mine also had a bad power transformer. (sight unseen from E-Bay) Naturally, you will want to replace the electrolytic and paper capicators. I can only remember one paper capacitor that was difficult to get to. I have been very happy with this radio as it seems to be very sensitive on both broadcast and short wave bands and sounds great. Best of luck and hope you enjoy it.

It is indeed a 10S669, 1942 model. This was my first old radio, mine had a bad output transformer and I replaced all the rubber wiring. Yours is an early version as it has the gold dial pointer and gold painted speaker. The later models had a cream plastic "Neptune" dial pointer and a cad speaker as mine has:

Steve, I am glad you responded to the 10S669 question. I learn something new every day on this site. I did not know about early/late models of this radio. Mine is an early version. How did you find one with the burlwood finish in such good shape? It looks great.Mine was beyond salvage.

Great! Thanks guys, I knew this would be a great place to aske the "other radio" question.
This is kind of a weird situation as this radio may end up being a restoration project for a person at work. They were looking for someone to restore it, so I threw my hat in the ring, with a big caution about no guarantees about time or cost. We'll see if anything pans out..... I figured I should do some homework just in case I get the oportunity to work on it.
Steve, couldn't get your pics to open, not sure why, but no go. I may be taking you up on your offer if this comes through.

Oh, by the way, on the back view, what's the purpose of the switch that is to the right rear of the chassis, attached to the chassis support (wood shelf)? Any ideas? Is that something OEM or somone else's handy work?

Someone added that switch. Can't tell what's on the back of it. A coil of some sort? BTW, here's what the finish should look like

Great!, Thanks for the info, I thought the switch was 'after market' but just wanted to check. From the limited photos that I have of it I don't see anything connected to it.
