49-1601 AC input capacitor
#1

Re-capping a 49-1601 which is transformerless.

Uses a voltage doubler power supply with a 50X6 rectifier tube and a 20uF input capacitor (C101).

The diagram shows positive (+) connected to one cathode and one anode and the other side of the cap to power line.

Parts list shows 400v/20uF.

Now, from my understanding of doubler supplies, this cap should be NON-polar, which could be internally two 40uF connected "back to back".
But the schematic I have just shows one cap, polar.

Does anyone know more about this?

No the diagram is correct, you need the cap with the plus to the tube and minus to the Mains.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
