Aux input into a Philco 40-195
#1

I'm interested in the idea of adding an AUX input into the Philco 40-195 console I'm working on in order to play vintage broadcasts via an MP3 player/cellphone.

At a cursory look I'm seeing a few people discussing wiring a jack into the volume pot. Is there anyone willing and able to give me a nutshell description of how that is (safely) done?

Maybe look at an old zenith radio schematic to see how they incorporated an RCA jack with radio/phono switch. I just got a 41-295, haven't started yet. Waiting on parts.

As "Paperboy" mentioned, take a look at a Zenith schematic. Nostalgia Air has all the Rider's scanned. Look for 5S119. It has factory add-on info on the schematic. I know because I have this model and it has the switch and phono input added. Works very well.  Icon_thumbup

The other option is to get an AM transmitter kit. I have the SSTRAN, and it works great. As long as your AM radio is restored and working properly, an AM transmitter is the way to go. No mods of the radio needed. Just tune it in like a normal station.... Icon_biggrin

Ok the short answer is solder a piece of shielded wire to the center tab on the volume control (center conductor) Solder the shield to the junction of #42 and 44. Use this to feed your audio signal in. On your 1/8" stereo jack connect the ring and tip together(this is the audio out from the Ipod), it goes to center conductor and use the sleeve connection for the audio - ( the shield). Tune the dial to where there is no station for best results.

This subject has come up more than once. I posted a very good circuit by Peter G. Balazsy (pbpix on the other forum) here:

Find a Canadian version, it already has a phono jack, at least I found one on my model 42 (Canadian version of a 41-280). Barring that finding the diagram from the Canadian version will tell you where to hook one in.
