How did you get the chassis so clean? I see that you painted the filter choke and interstage and power transformers; did you paint the tube shields as well?

Yes, they were rusty and dull looking, so I painted them with a paint called "chrome". Chrome, it ain't, but pretty it is.
I took the shells off the power transformer to paint them. They are actually too glossy, so I have sent an order for chassis- black spraypaint from the Eastman Co, which sells products for car restoration.
They have a wonderful selection of paints... wrinkle finish, cad plate simulation, the semi-gloss black paint I sent for, and more!
That semi-gloss paint will also work to repaint metal tubes. The oldest metals' tube number was stamped into the shell, so when you repaint those, nobody will ever know! Icon_wink
The original dial scale looks crappy in comparison, so I might send off to Mark Oppat, who sells repro dial scales for the 5-band model (code 121), which this one is. I treated it to Novus #2 in back, but not in front. I'm afraid to polish away the numbers on the dial scale!
By the way, the underside of the chassis looks no different than it did coming off the assembly line.
Now, if I can get it running right! So far, all I have is audio. I wish I had a signal tracer for that. This radio is the most complicated I've ever attempted, so I will need help!
So far, I've used the interference (click) method to trace down what is working and what isn't. I'm getting nothing at the QAVC stage forward. I'll break down and do a detailed voltage check at the tube pins. Any help is gladly welcomed!
