38-38 Mystery Part
#1

I'm considering picking up two consoles this weekend. My interest is mainly in a 610.  Due to a proviso that 'both must go,' I'm towing a 38-38 along with me. It will be my introduction to the farm radio experience which I am mildly excited about. I asked the seller if the radio had been upgraded for AC use only because he said it last played about ten years ago (haven't they all?) Anyway, he said it had a cord and plug and I noticed a contraption in the bottom of the cabinet which I did not recognize (see attached.) Can anyone please educate me on the purpose of this mystery part? Thanks in advance.

Looks like a power pack to allow operation on mains power. http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/248/M0013248.htm     Looks like a fun project, or it could be the flux capacitor out of a time machine! Some more info https://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=21485

Thanks for the info David. That sounds promising about the former. Hedging my bets, does Riders contain a schematic for the latter? I may need it to go back and pick up the former.

Might be one of these: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/pagesbymodel...017907.pdf

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Great. Thanks Terry! I will definitely pore over that literature. I'm very green on radio repair in general so this will be a big help in trying to understand how these adaptors work.

Thanks David and Terry for pointing me in the right direction on this. You guys were right on, as expected. I saw the Sears silvertone and Electro (pictured below) models of the battery eliminator and they look almost identical to the image I have. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.
