I almost forgot to say, that if you get the rust spot clean enough you can brush-plate the spot. If there is any stain left behind, plating will not work.

I put some wax on the finished chassis. This will help to prevent oxidation of the many pin-holes in the original plate, and a few new ones in the repair.
