Philco 46-420 Back Clips
#1

I recently worked on a 46-420 Hippo I had laying around. It didn’t have a back, so I ordered a replacement. I wasn’t sure if the clips would come with it. Well, they didn’t.

So I thought about it for a few days, and perused the interwebs…

Today I remembered I had some old 1905 Springfield stripper clips laying around. I pulled the spring inserts from the clips. With a 1/8” drill bit, a block of wood, and a vice I formed some clips to go on the back and hold it in place. They’re not necessarily pretty, but they retain enough spring to hold the back in place.

I’m kinda surprised somebody hasn’t had a fabricator make some of these up. Seems there would be a good demand for them.

Those are "T" pins on RR's site...quite different from what the OP is describing.

Great job on those clips, craig61a! Icon_thumbup

Well, they work…

I looked through a bunch of plastic auto fittings to see if there would be something that might work and look nicer, but I didn’t see anything.

A plastic clip that would slide on the back with a piece that sticks up and engages the inside of the cabinet might be cheaper to have made. Although I don’t know how much it would cost and what kind of numbers would be required for a minimum order.
