Philco 40-180 Volume
#1

I have a couple of Philco Model 40-180s that I have been working on. Both have been recapped and out-of-spec resistors replaced. My problem is that the maximum volume on both is not as loud as I would like. When I touch the top of the converter tube 6J8G (shows up as 7J7 in any schematic, as per production change run 4), volume improves dramatically for both. Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to make this volume improvement permanent?

Hi and welcome to the Phorum,

I would check #13 the plate choke for the rf amp isn't open and that the loop ant is connected properly.

Here's the Philco service info for your set. https://philcoradio.com/library/download...20Book.pdf

I will second...third Terry's suggestion. Very typical symptom.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
