works fine on isolation transformer. on ac line smokes vol control and 325 w/w resister smokes. suspect pwr xfmr

Hmmm rather odd. The volume control doesn't really have much to do with any thing in the p/s. The sw does though. What happens if you run it w/the 5Y4 unplugged? Are the plate voltages even between the ct and the plates at the 5Y4 socket? Do you have the chassis connected to an earth ground? Have you done any service work to the chassis? What does #30 measure in ohms?

How about that 0.005uF cap from line to chassis? Does it smoke if you rotate the power plug while operating without the IT?
