Cap Question
I've been working on the model 16 that I queried about earlier, and it's going well. I've done all of the bakelite boxes (14), and now I'm at the big tin box that has 5 caps in it. The question is: how does one attack this? It appears to be sealed, with a "lid" that is soldered on. I haven' detached any of the many connections until I decide on and get some advice on the best solution to the problem Please advise. Dick Bidwell, VA

You open it up from the bottom (or end) by carefully bending out the metal tabs holding the fishpaper board there. Heat the can like a bakelite block cap to loosen the guts.
Don't forget the embedded caps in the tone control either. Chuck Schwark, The Philco Repair Bench ![]() http://www.philcorepairbench.com |
