Photo Finish Question?
#1

Hello,

I recently acquired a 37-620 philco radio. The photo finish is completely intact. The clear laquer that is over the photo finish has some "checking" and slight cracking but over all not too bad. Is there any way to repair that clear coat with out disrupting the underlying photo finish or is it best just to leave it as is??

Thanks

I've lightly sanded it with 600 or 1000 grit that resprayed it with lacquer. Do this several times til the checking is gone.

I have done this quite a few times, and then buffed the radio out. Be carefull if you do any masking the lacquer will soften the PP for a while and you can lift it off.

The only minor issue I have seen is on one radio the non photofinish area had som finish areas that were lifting bit not visable. After being sprayed they were slightly lighter. The only option there would have been to strip those areas like the arch. But again, watch that masking tape.

Thanks for the advice!
