40-195/200/201 Spike suppression capacitors
#1

In the 40-195/200/201 series there are two capacitors in the push-pull audio output circuit, C72 and C75 both of which are listed as .003mFd and are rated at 1000 volts. I am thinking of using .0027 rated at 1.6KV. Would there be any reason to go even higher in voltage rating?

The audio output transformer on this unit was replaced with a Stancor unit. I suspect that one or more of these capacitors may be open or leaky. I have not checked for that yet, but capacitors like these used for voltage spike suppression are pretty important to protect the tubes and the transformers.

Modern capacitors are usually pretty conservative in their voltage ratings. Those 1.6KV caps will last forever.

I agree, I am not even sure why you need 1.6kV. But that is plenty.
