Another 70 speaker
#1

I have acquired a 70 chassis and a speaker on the cheap, after this Sep. Kutztown auction when someone who wanted the 70 Tower clock for its mechanism sold me the electronics for 15 bucks.

Now the cone in the speaker has a fairly large hole, and the voice coil was stuck.
Also both transformer and the field coil are shot (transformer obviously has the primary open).

Today I removed the cone.
The voice coil and the spider are good, the cone developed an additional rip as the paper was fairly brittle so when I pressed just a little it just ripped.

I am sure I could repair it, but not sure it is worth it and so maybe a new cone is a better choice. I'd like to keep the voice coil and the spider unless NOS cones come with them.

Obviously the transformer will be replaced as having dealt with 20's speaker before, a new Hammond is less than half of rewinding the transformer.

So,

1. Should I or should I not repair the cone, opting for the new one?
2. What is the best way to repair the field coil, considering it is a 70 speaker and the central post is pressed and not bolted.
3. Should I just send it for re-coning?

Mike.
