I was frankly surprised to see this old thread brought back with more comments.

Allen in SB Wrote:I have a question regarding the "acorn" knobs. The replacement parts list includes three knobs - a Knob (Large), a Knob (Small), and a Knob (Station Selector). I've seen large and small acorn knobs. Do you know the difference between these and the station selector knob?
Sorry for not answering sooner, Allen -

The tuning knob needs to have a set screw to hold it in place, as it uses the same tuning mechanism as the 44 and the 5-band 16 - the tuning shaft pulls out to provide slow-speed tuning, and then pushes in to provide fast-speed tuning. You can't pull the shaft out if the knob does not have a set screw to hold it in place.

Yup, the lower center knob on my 144 should be a large hex knob. Oops. Icon_crazy

The large tuning knob on my set is a reproduction, with a set screw to hold it in place and allow for the two-speed tuning mechanism to be used.
