66B (looks like a MB)
#1

Time to have a look at this cabinet, but I have a question. Was this 66 cabinet available w/o the black accents on the trim? I realize that this one has been stripped.

No. At least, not from the factory.

Still working on the 66B cabinet and hope have it clear coated Monday or so. While I was working onthe 66B I pulled out the old 39-80. The finish was really rough on it so it got the same treatment as the 66B but it was easier to work on . Just waiting for it to cure before a rubdown.

Did the grain filling a couple of days ago but wasn't happy with the results. It made the fnt look too dark. Sanded it out and got it looking much better. Got it all toned and edges painted black but manged to sand though the toner on the top so have to go back over that. Then on to a few coats of sealer, sanding, and gloss. Oh still have the wooden top/front trim and wooden dial escutcheon.

So I think I'm done w/it till it's time to polish it out. I didn't glue and nail the trim back on as it will make it more difficult to polish. The grille cloth is from a 60MB as is the trim, it was badly damaged from the previous cabinet work (sanded all most flat). Didn't really like it so much when I was refinishing it but it's starting to grow on me.

Is the rumor true that radio collectors after a long time start to look like their sets???
