Does anyone make photofinish replacements?
#1

I got a 37-610 a couple months ago for $40. It is all there except the guy wanted to try and restore it so removed all of the finish down to bare wood. I could tell by how plain the front is it must have been a photofinish and sure enough a google search reveals burl wings with what looks like flamed maple in the center with three of those yellow-black-yellow vertical stripes.Does anyone make a photofinish overlay you can just put on the front like a decal and spray lacquer over it or do I have to start getting two types of veneer and see if I can cut out the pattern in real veneer. Sounds like a whole lot of work for a radio that isn't worth much but I would like it to look as nice as possible. I have a completely restored model 620 and those have a nice mahogany veneer and wooden column pieces which dress up the front. I fear the 37-610 will look extremely plain without some way to fancy up the front. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the Phorum, Albatros1234! I'm not aware of anyone making decal overlays. I'm sure others (with a lot better wood finishing skills than me) will offer suggestions. Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

There are articles here on making photofinish. With markers, paper and then lacquer finish.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Thanks, I guess I will search for photofinish and see what pops up. I guess I can just get some nice veneer and cover the whole front but it sure would be nice if you could make or buy an overlay and just make it look original. I actually have a bunch of Philco's, probably more than any other one brand so might be lurking around again, I joined this forum a few years ago just don't post much.

I am almost positive it is white or light walnut. Then stained or toned to the proper color. Dickmadsowry — 09:58 PM
