Have a friend trying to rebuild a complete 60:Rewinding coils, etc.  
 He asked if he could test the oscillator for function with just the power supply, Det Oscillator Tube and 80 tube.

He will need the speaker plugged in. Without Field coil there will be no B+.
The 42 tube is desirable. It will bring the voltages down and will quickly discharge the caps when the radio is off.

I'm guessing, the oscillator might work with the other tubes removed, but it might not. The problem I see is voltages are going to be higher than normal because there will not be the load of the output tube. The speaker field coil will have to be connected.
