I guess I was wrong about the pilot lamp choice being related to the rectifier tube used, not that it matters as you can omit using the pilot lamp tap on a 35Z5, 35Z4, or a 35W4 without incident. However with a 50Y6 or a 35Z3 there is no tap, so if you want a pilot lamp you have to use a 120 volt night light or Christmas light bulb.
