I have a tinkering bench at my office, and that's where Little Phil is right now. I will have to comb through these comments and look at the machine.

I think the resistance on the field goal is 1680 ohm. That's from memory, but I checked both LittlePhil and FrankenPhil, and they were the same.

I can, say, however, that I think hantavirus killed Gene Hackman's wife. I'm hoping the radioactivity from the bomb blasts killed the virus. I have cleaned the case out.

As for "Electronic, electrical and mechanical systems work on smoke. How do I know this? Because when you let the smoke out, the device stops working." On Sunday, I heard this for the very first time from my cousin, who is a mechanic who works on Jags and Rolls Royces. I let him know that there had been plenty of smoke.

Today, I replaced three paper capacitors and a resistor and managed to keep the smoke inside the wires and components. I found out that doing one thing at a time is actually kind of hard, because the next thing you know, there's an old wire from the 1940s that needs replacing. But, I got it done by proceeding slowly and also by confirming wiring by looking at FrankenPhil.

I'll look at the original field coil, cone-free original speaker tomorrow to see if I can understand just where to attach a temporary PM speaker. A little Jensen speaker came in the case with FrankenPhil, so I think the former owner was able to generate sound.

What are these little cylindrical objects inside Little Phil? They seem hollow. I don't think they are capacitors.

I think they are little inductors. I also think those are antenna coils.
If over caps, see what cap it is, replace and put inside the winding again.

Also, tthey are shown in the corner of the chassis drawing. At least two numbers say 5, 6` and 13.
The quality in the Nostalgiaair is bad, so maybe someone has a better copy; I am away from home so I cannot get to my Riders.

This document shows both a schematic and an under-chassis parts diagram.

Per the document, the output transformer is located on the chassis.  One leg of the secondary is grounded.
Therefore, you should have either 3 or more likely 4 wires.  If 3 wires, the speaker would have to be mounted to the chassis to complete the voice coil circuit.  2 of these wires are to the Field Coil.  The other 2 (or one wire and chassis ground) go to the output transformer.  One of these wires connects to one terminal of the speaker's voice coil.  The other wire connects to one leg of the "hum bucking coil", wound with the field coil.  The other leg of this hum bucking coil connects to the other terminal of the speaker's voice coil.  Does this speaker plug in to this chassis or is it "hard wired"?  The Schematic does not show a plug.

For the purpose of testing, the easiest way of connecting a speaker to the radio if you have the original speaker with the missing cone connected is to:

• Inspect the original speaker and note 2 or 3 terminals on the frame of the speaker.  2 of these terminals are for the voice coil.  Very flexible wires lead from these terminals to the speaker cone if it was still in the speaker.  (You should see these same connections and flexible wires on the test speaker.) If the cone is missing or beyond repair but these flexible wires and the voice coil still exist, cut these wires. 
  

• Measure between these terminals with the speaker connected to the radio.  This should be a very low resistance, possibly less than 1 ohm.  the speaker can be connected here.  Alternately, there is a connection for the speaker on the antenna terminal.  connecting a speaker between this terminal and chassis ground will also work, but hum may be higher.
