Grill Cloth for Philco 41-280
#1

I am restoring a Philco model 41-280 and I am wondering what type of grill cloth was used at the time of manufactering. I also would like to know if anyone knows fo anywhere to get the chassis overhauled. I mainly just know about cabinet restoration and not anything about the chassis.

Good morning,

I just finished a Philco 41-280 project... I posted a couple of threads about it here: http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread...&pid=22250

And here: http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=3921

Here's the gentleman who did the chassis restoration: http://www.texasvintageaudio.com/ If you click on "RESTORATION" and then "CLIENT COMMENTS" you will see my radio... Mr. Walls just posted my project to his web site!

The grille cloth that I used is "Pattern 15" from Brets Old Radios... you can reach him here: bretsoldradios@att.net - This IS NOT a reproduction of the original, but I liked the look.

This was my first "old radio" project, so please don't regard anything I posted as coming from an "expert"... I'm certainly not that!

Enjoy your project!

Hi all, I know this post is a little old, but I thought I'd post this anyway.
I found that many models did not use a patterned cloth, like something fancy. It was more of a open weave plain cloth. No real pattern.
The 40-180, and the 42-385 definitely had the same type of cloth. It looks like the 41-280 also uses the same cloth.
The grille bars were so close together, it didn't ned a fancy cloth.

Here is an old post I made, showing the cloth close up.

This stuff should be a lot easier to find than the now scarce, fancy grillecloth Icon_smile
Hope this helps.
