So for now I passed.. Unless someone sees that maybe this is Original??

It is not "original" though most radios of that age have had one or more of the filters replaced. The best ones have the cans left and replacement parts on the bottom - like mine was. The transformer looks like a well matched replacement. So it is about average and depends on how much you want an A-64.

Ok, Thanks.. What would you say its worth in as is condition.. Assuming it works.. The tag said it did.. Should I ask to see it work first?

I don't know, the Aerovox replacement filter condenser, not a big deal, the replacement power transformer would be a bit of a turn off for me since it doesn't even fit over the hole. Did they choose the correct transformer, voltages and current ratings, for the application or did they just grab a random one off a shelf or from a junk box to get it going?
What concerns me is what's under the chassis, because of that I would try to pay as little as possible for it, but as has been mentioned before most G.E models are not in high demand so if you like this model it may pay to hold out for a more original set that hasn't been molested as much. Is this some sort of consignment shop, the tag has a name written on it of "Katz".

No ,it doesn't really matter if it works. You need to check it all out anyway.

I guess it would come down to how happy I was with that power transformer replacement. I would also be looking for the original cap cans. It seems that for most people the cabinet condition is most important.

Kind of .. Its a antique shop. but has many different sections of different people selling.. Around here by me I cannot seem to find any older radios.. so when I saw this I wanted something to play with.. I will go see what they will take for it.. Finding a Transformer would be a nightmare.. But if I can get it cheap. I can play with it..

A couple of questions. What are the Transformer voltages supposed to be? There doesn't seem to be a any voltages on the schematic per-say.. My guess would be about 350-400 volts Ctr taped. A 6.3 volt for the filaments and 5 Volts for the 5Z4..

The cap connected to output is rated at 400 Volts so I assume the voltage is less than that..

Anyway I will go today to see what they will take for it..

Thanks all..

The filter capacitors, at least the one on the cathode/filament of the rectifier tube would normally be about 450 VDC. The H.V winding, if the set used a 6F6/42 output tube, was probably a 350-0-350 type, or 700 VAC between the outside legs, rectified with low load on startup it can spike up to 400 VDC. Does this set have a 5Z4 in it? If it does then that indicates a 5 volt heater winding at least. Sometimes what people will do is use a power transformer intended for a set that used an #84 tube or a 6X5, such a transformer would not have a 5 volt winding on it, but worse then that the H.V winding usually puts out a lower voltage and a lower current. This was why I was wondering why the replacement transformer was noticeably smaller then the original would have been. What may be useful is to take that Stancor part number and look up the specs, someone may have posted a catalog by now, if not go to the alternative forum and ask (also ask about a parts chassis if you go and get this thing).

Arran, Ok Thanks for the info.. I decided not to get it at this time.

But while driving up to a dinner we eat at I noticed a auction place and older Antique store. So we stopped in.. He had quite a few Radios Philco's GE ,ETC About 4 or 5 Consoles and a couple of smaller ones. So I will go back today. He was trying to get rid of them..He offered me 3 Consoles for 125.00 He also had a philco small one with a record player in it.. It looked like a 46-1201 ?? for 50.00 ??

I have to look at model numbers when Im up there..

Thanks for the help..

I saw your pictures of that in that other thread, $50 is too much for an unrestored 46-1201, they are interesting sets
but are also dead common, and that one looked like it had a few blemishes in the faux wood grain. It may have been worth up to that (preferably less of course) for the G.E if you just really had to have it, since cosmetically it was pretty good, but not a 46-1201.
