Russ;
There is a Canadian RCA-Victor model that looks very similar to that U.S G.E export model you have, it was called a model A-3. The layout is a bit different however: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/rca_victor_a3.html

I have always been interested only in premium radio receivers, but for three years I began to pay attention to small radio sets in the carbolite corps, which in the USSR and Europe were made as "folk radio" for poor categories of the population. After the Second World War in the USSR, radio of this class was produced both with 220 volt power supply and with power from anodic and incandescent batteries. Models of radio sets of the "folk radio" class were very few, but their number was the largest one. Another feature is that each model was produced by three .. four manufacturers. The first post-war "folk" radio receivers were the receivers of the Record model, Record-46 and Record 47.Record and Record 46 very rare models that were released by experimental parties and I have not been able to purchase them yet. But in my collection there are two radio models Record 47 - one has already been restored, and the second is in restoration.

Radio Record 47 is a Soviet analogue of American radio type AA5,. It has five radio tubes and no power transformer. But there is one difference - the receiver is all-wave and receives radio stations in the range from 150 kHz to 12 MHz.

That Oктябрь 2 looks very similar to the Nordmende Fidelio 55. I like it very much.

Most soviet radios of 50s and 60s look like German ones.
People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Yes, I have noticed that from seeing the photos Peter has posted...but the Oктябрь 2 bears a strong resemblance to the Nordmende Fidelio 55 in front - especially that tuning eye, the placement of same, and the escutcheon surrounding it.
That stands out to me because, as I said previously, I really like the Fidelio 55's looks. I passed on one a few years ago at a radio meet in Lexington, KY, and have regretted it ever since.

Yes , Michael. After the famous thing of Churchill, with criticism of communism and the USSR, and the beginning of a confrontation between the USSR and the US, cooperation between the USSR and the RCA was stopped. Radiators "Leningrad" were stopped at the factory named after Kazytsky and stopped designing many others in the style of American radio. As a result, the design and functionality of the Soviet radio became very similar to the radio produced by the German Democratic Republic (satellite of the USSR) and even the Federal Republic of Germany. There is nothing surprising in this, because in the USSR, even before 1955, many specialists of the former Nazi Germany, who were captured in 1945 or who under the contract were designing radio engineering for the USSR, worked. Particularly strong influence of the German style and functionality is noted in models Belorus-50, Belarus-53, Belorussia-57, October-1 and October-2. Later versions of Soviet radio receivers on "finger" radio luminaires were similar to German radio, but not so clearly.
I really hope that Google will translate the text correctly because I will again blame Michael for a bottle of expensive cognac for help, which is a problem because brandy is forbidden to send by parcel. ..... Michael, here is the control text.

Ron, I had Nordmand Othello 55. This is a similar model with Fidelio. I must say that you are right and there really are similar design elements, especially with the placement of an optical indicator of the setting and scale. But in general, this model is already a new generation of German radio and they are made on "finger" radiolamps.
Something similar in design and circuitry in the USSR began to appear in 1957 in models Lux and Belarus 57.

Yes...the Othello 55 is also a very attractive radio. And you are correct, Peter; I went back to page 5 of this thread and I do see the similarity between the Belarus 57 (and, to some extent, the Belarus 59) and the two Nordmendes (Fidelio 55 and Othello 55).
For the rest of you, if you do not want to search this thread you can see the Belarus 57 here. Scroll down a bit to see the Belarus 59.
So many beautiful radios that we never see here in America. Peter...thank you so much for sharing these pictures with us! Спасибо!

I will continue my story about "folk radio" in the USSR ... A popular and fairly simple and cheap radio record -47 was still quite expensive for the poor after the inmate of the population of the USSR. The population was in demand even simpler and cheaper radio. And in 1949 two models of the simplest three lamp superheteradins, made on a reflex scheme appeared at once. These were the radio receivers Москвич Б (Moskvich B) and ARZ-49. In both receivers, the autotransformer was used in the power supply, and instead of the lamp kenotron selenium rectifier.Москвич Б ( Moskvich B) had a plastic case and was considered the cheapest in the USSR by a tube superheterodyne type radio receiver. In various modifications, these radios were released by the end of the 1950's and were the most popular and popular radio receivers in the USSR at that time.
Москвич Б (Moskvich B)
Very quickly it turned out that selenium rectifier is a very precarious element and since 1951 it was replaced by a tube kenotron. Thus both models became 4-lampic superheterodynamics.
The view on the chassis is joyfully Moskvich B of the second modification in the kenotron instead of the selenium rectifier.
