I have spotted a 650 console in pretty decent shape. The only reason it's not mine already is that is it 250 miles away from me. Meaning it would be a 500 mile round trip, and take an all day drive, and traveling over a mountain pass. The guy is holding it for a day or two, so I can make up my mind. I can get it for $70, plus the gas it will take to make the trip.
I like the looks of the cabinet, and according to the seller, it works just fine. (you know how that can go).
What are your opinions of the model?
Desirable?
Too common?
Not common?
Do they sound good?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
It looks like this one. Not this exact one, but this model.

Good performer.

Not as much in console form due to the amount of space it takes up, but with its 10-1/2 inch speaker it will sound better than the tombstone version.
> Too common? Not common?
Sort of in between.
> Do they sound good?
The tombstone version sounds good. The console should sound even better (I have never owned a 650 console so I can't relate firsthand experience with one).
If you really like it and don't mind the drive, go get it.

I have one, unrestored. For $70, I'd grab it. 4 hrs 1 way to get it? I'd do it only if I really wanted it. I see you're West Coast. I'm down in Central California, and paid at least double that for mine.
It's an 8 tube unit with push-pull output, so it should sound great!

Thanks Ron and Jeff. I really like the looks of the cabinet on this model. I've just about convinced myself to go get it. Or maybe I will just pay the guy and have him hold it until the passes are a bit better. I don't drive in the snow unless I absolutely have to. And I haven't absolutely had to since I retired 3 years ago.

It sounds just like my laptop. LOL
They are very nice looking radios. Yours is a very nice example.

I'm going to go get it. He said to take my time, and wait for a good day to cross the mountains. I'm retired, and we do enjoy a good road trip once in a while. I will scout out a good place for lunch.
So there's no rush, and nobody is going to buy it out from under me. I have a spot in my home all picked out for it.

I think you'll like it! My wife lets mine reside in the living room.
