Audin's previous message piqued in me a question I have had for some time.....
When finishing cabinets, what do you prefer to apply first? Toner, then Clear, or Clear, then Toner ?????
From conversations that I have had with other collectors, this is kind of a "boxers or briefs" question.

I've never heard of it being done any other way than toner first, followed by clear. Unless there was a need to seal the cabinet first, often with shellac. Then this is followed by toner, then clear.

Tom,
Toner first, then clear. If you don't have clear over the toner, the slightest scrach in the toner coat will show. Where a minor scrach in the clear top coat may not even show.

Thanks, Steve. I thought that was correct...but cabinets are not my "specialty," I much prefer working on the chassis of old radios.
