38-7 bought today
#16

The radio is finished and looks nice and works well.

I bid on this one at the SCARS auction in 2011, but lost. After the auction, the guy who was bidding against me decided to sell it to me at my top bid price. If you look at the "before" photo, the glob of wax on top probably worried him. I like it much more than the 38-10 I restored. It receives very well, and has no "Photofinish."

To deal with high line voltages, I added a 16 ohm, 25watt power resistor. I also added a fuse and CL-90 in-rush current limiter. I had thought about adding a bucking transformer, but did not have a good place to mount it. I then calculated that the power resister would only have to dissipate 6.1 watts, so would not create a heat problem.

Glad to see you back here, Stephen.

Beautiful job on the 38-7 cabinet, too. Icon_thumbup

On an unrelated note, did you ever find an S-7 speaker for...oh, I forgot which Philco you needed a speaker for?
