Power transformer qquestion

I have just begun restoring a Model 38-620. The power transformer has obviously over heated in the past: wax leaking out of the transformer and splattered around the local area. All windings ohm out correctly.
Is this transformer safe for future use? In any case I intend to add an in-line 3/4 Amp fuse. Thank you Don

Pull out the rectifier tube and run the set for 5 or 10 mins. If the transformer get warm or hot it's probably has shorted turns. Measure the HV ac from the each end to the centertap. Voltage should be within 10v or less.
When my pals were reading comic books I was down in the basement in my dad's workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to figure out what all those squiggly meant. Circa 1966 Now I think I've got! Terry
