I am getting ready to align the IF on a 36-650 radio and am a bit confused by the instructions with respect to where the Signal Generator should be connected.  The instructions say attach to the Grid Cap of the 6A7 (Det. Osc.) after having removed the Grid clip.

Don't I want to attach the Signal Generator to the Grid clip?

Instructions/schematic attached.

Thanks, Bill

What type of wood is under the photo finish? Is it suitable for staining or is a veneer required?

Thank you

I have seen a few discussions on this talking about rewinding the coil, but my coil is OK, 867 ohms. A little lower than those I saw mentioned in the previous discussions at about 1100-1200 ohms. My Shadow unit is Part #6497.
However, I don't have the resistor #14, 1k ohms in my set! While the Electrolytic Filter caps were changed previously, probably in the early 1950's, nothing else appears to be changed.
Could this be a Factory modification to eliminate the resistor? I didn't want to power-up and damage it, if the 1k resistor is required.
FYI - Both the Oscillator & Detector transformers had open windings that I re-wound. Not uncommon.
I included a copy of Ron's schematic. Item #14 is the resistor in question. The Parts Layout Diagram shows it connected on the Capacitor Block #56. However it is NOT shown anywhere on the Layout in Philco Service Bull. #129B, but does appear on #129.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hello Everyone,
Here is my latest restoration My little Sony transistor radio model TR-610 from 1958.
I had replace what I consider to be the smallest multi-section electrolytic capacitor this little tiny capacitor contains three 20 ufd at 10volts .
the one thing I have to do is to adjust some trimmers on the tuning capacitor because I noticed the factory seal was broken but the IF cans are still sealed .

Sincerely Richard
P.S. I will post a photo of the capacitor too.

I am looking for a transformer for a R-90 radio. 32-10151-4 so far, I haven't found anything close to it. would anyone know the output and if a 60hertz work instead of 80hertz? I really want to get this working.

I recently acquired a Philco 37-31.Seems complete and not rusty. I'm fairly confident that I can get it to work but it needs the front of the cabinet decal which I haven't been able to find .

I'm debating if I should just sell it and move on to one of my many other projects . I have a feeling that it's ultimate value would be a total restore, stuffing the caps and the like which only a true collector would demand. I looked on e$bay and unrestored start at about 35-70- and restored are at 200 or so.

Guidance oh Philco Pfreaks....

Hey everyone I just purchased this cabinet and wanted to get some advice. I have searched and searched but can’t find this model anywhere online. Also the record player doesn’t spin but radio works so trying to figure out if my best option is to replace record player assembly or fix the current one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

So this is my " Phirst " post and also a continuation from this previous thread:

Unusual 116X Console (philcoradio.com)

I recently acquired this radio from fellow PP member " radioray ", a very nice gentleman by the way.  It was complete and the cabinet was beautifully restored, but it was not in working condition. After a trip to my local radio repair tech, I am happy to say that it is back with me and working once again, even the Shadow Meter works!!  It sounds as good as it looks!!!!
I hold a special place in my heart for Philco's, my grandfather's family business sold and delivered Philco radios all over the Southeast of Pennsylvania and it remind me of him every time I fire her up.  I see myself acquiring many more Philco's in the future.........

Time to get the cabinets ready for the restored chassis’s.  Four Philcos, one Crosley, and one Radiola.  So much to do so many radios so little time LOL.

So, we now have 5 of the six ready to put back together.

Hello Everyone,
The topic of the day is using Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors Instead Mica Capacitors .
As you guys have known Mica Capacitors  prices are getting more expensive and some values are getting harder to get .
More and More I am seeing that dreaded monster Silver migration Disease and the current value that I need to stock up on and use in a General Electric 1950s clock radio 110 PF.

I found these  Multilayer Ceramic capacitors made by Kemet

It does say  Class I "stable" material. Components of this classification are temperature compensating and are suited for resonant circuit applications or those where Q and stability of capacitance characteristics are required.
