Warmer weather usually means, among other things, it is time once again for antique radio swap meets!
I’ve been able to attend two so far this year. The first was on April 29 in Louisville, hosted by the Mid-South Antique Radio Collectors. The weather was actually rather chilly that morning, but no one let that stop them from enthusiastically participating in a fine meet which was well attended.
Here are a few more pictures from that show:
The biggest radio event of the spring is the Kutztown get-together at Renninger’s in Kutztown, PA. This was held on May 12 and 13, with another one to be held in September. I’ve been to a few Kutztown meets in the recent past and always enjoyed every one of them. Unfortunately, due to ongoing health issues, it is now very difficult for me to travel long distances these days.
If you are interested in amateur radio – a hobby that sort of parallels antique radio, with some crossover of both – the big meet of the year is usually the Dayton Hamvention, a three day affair held each May in Xenia, Ohio, near Dayton. And, like antique radio, there are lots of smaller, regional hamfests throughout the year in various parts of the country.
If you are aware of an antique radio swap meet or hamfest in your area, make it a point to attend. You are certain to have a good time and even find something you didn’t even know you wanted.
In Part 2 of this series, I will tell you about a large radio meet I attended which was fairly close to home.
