The Fisher and Mid Century Modernism

The new Fisher stereo items mostly shared a new, sleeker, longer, lower, wider look then their Series Ninety or TA-500 predecessors? The trend in automotive design was moving in the same direction at the time, as were the design and construction of then-new “ranch” houses. (Full disclosure: I live in a Mid Century ranch house built in 1960.) Avery Fisher, a designer himself, had to have been influenced by these trends in design. I feel it is reflected in the overall long, low, symmetrical look of Fisher equipment made from 1958 into the mid-1960s. It was modern (that is, Mid Century Modern) equipment for a modern era.
