Springtime = Swap Meet Time!

The return of warmer weather also marks the return of radio swap meet season. While a few radio clubs host meets in the winter (the Indiana Historical Radio Society being among the few which do this), most clubs do not host meets until spring.

The Mid-South Antique Radio Collectors, a club which has been in existence for more than a few decades now, hosted such an event on April 30 in the parking lot of a church in Louisville, KY.

The weather had been calling for rain on the day of the meet. However, the system which produced the rain moved through the area sooner than expected, resulting in a very nice day for a swap meet with periods of sunshine. Therefore, all the vendors who set up at this meet set up to sell outdoors in the parking lot, which was most convenient for everyone.

As a result of the better-than-expected weather, the meet was well attended and a number of radios and parts changed hands during the event.

I was fortunate to be able to attend this meet and took some photos which I would like to share with you here.

This vendor had several Bakelite radios available for sale, along with an E.H. Scott Allwave 23 chassis and power supply.

Even some young people were getting in on the vintage radio excitement.

I should mention that the blue mirrored radio in the photo above was a Crosley reproduction, not a Sparton original.

…and still more radios and parts at my friend Jeremy’s booth.

Here is your charming and delightful Old Uncle Ron with Debbie at our booth at the meet. We were selling grab bags of radio parts. My friends Steve (far left in photo) and Larry (far right) stopped by to chat. Photo courtesy Jeremy S.

Yes, I did bring home a few things from this meet – after all, what fun is going to a radio meet if you don’t pick up a new prize or three?

It really was wonderful seeing folks at this meet whom I had not seen in quite a while. I had a great time, and I hope everyone else in attendance did as well.
